Ferret Care – Simple Measures For A Happy Fuzzy

Providing a good home to your new found fuzzy friend isn’t difficult, but in order to give the best ferret care one can you will need to understand a few things regarding his basic needs. These little guys are quite personable. Knowing this from the onset will better prepare you for ferret parenting and following these five suggestions will score you big points among those in the ferret world.

  1. Provide him with hoards of attention.
This is what the ferret craves, your love and attention. If you don’t have the time to invest then I would suggest not getting one of these creatures as a pet. Regardless of how busy you are you will want to make sure your ferret has plenty of face time with you or another family member on a regular basis.
  2. Know his essential needs.
Immerse yourself and learn all you can about proper ferret care before you hastily decide on one of these critters as a pet. These are unique animals and are not like the typical household four-legged companion so it is important to familiarize yourself with some of his idiosyncrasies. From his proper food to his playful nature to his housing requirements, all of these should be taken into consideration.
  3. Regular vet visits are advised.
The ferret doctor is an invaluable resource in keeping the fuzzy in tip top shape. Prevention is always much better and healthier than the cure. Regular visits to the vet will make it much easier to keep tabs on his overall health and the odds of preventing an unwanted illness or disease is decreased dramatically.  Doing this will save you money in the long run.
  4. Create that bond with your ferret.
You are going to witness some of the strangest gestures and sounds emanating from this character and when you do you will want to know what is going on. The only way you will know is by bonding with him and getting to know him. Ferrets insist that you join in on their playtime. You will see that they will gently bite your hand when they need attention. This would be the perfect time to get in there and play with him. When you take him up on his offer you are going to start to recognize all his goofy quirks. As important as this is it is only just one part of quality ferret care.
  5. He has to have his toys.
Curiosity is the primary driving force of the ferret. Give him something interesting that he has never seen and he will be amused for hours on end. These are burrowing animals so give him various tunnels to play with along with some balls and slides. Be sure that you always keep his safety in mind when giving him a new toy.

This is by no means an all inclusive list; however, once you have these down you will find that common ferret care isn’t at all hard.
